In search for some history?
Linus Pauling was awarded the 1954 Nobel Prize for Chemistry. He was awarded for his research into the nature of the chemical bond and its application to the elucidation of the structure of complex substances. He was awarded another Nobel in 1962 for peace, for his crusade to stop the atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons. On October 10, 1963, the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty went into effect.
